Born and educated in Basel, Switzerland, Sylvia Einstein has lived in the USA since 1965. Although she studied many textile techniques, after 1975 Sylvia has concentrated on making quilts.

She loves printed, eccentric fabric from all sources, and often sews collages of disparate patterned fabrics she calls crazy quilts. Sylvia says she intends to return to the style of Carnival, one of her favorite early art quilts.

In her more recent work, Sylvia continues to pursues chance encounters of lines and colors and out of this dialogue with the material comes the finished quilt.
