a Quilter’s Companion

Website Review of Quilting Assistant.com

bannerDiscovering this website was like scoring 100 on an exam, (excellent), the Oxford English Dictionary, (exhaustive), a Monopoly board, (sensible layout) and Niagara Falls, (refreshing).

Quilting Assistant.com devotes itself to helping the reader/quilter learn and make informed quilting related decisions. This is an outstanding website. In their words, “One reason quilting has thrived over the ages is that techniques are passed on from one quilter to the next, and often times improved upon in the process. Quilters never reach a point of mastering everything. There is always a new approach to cutting, piecing, quilting and finishing that yields striking results.”

Quilting Assistant.com doesn’t just give you free patterns for quilts, blocks and borders. It informs you on what to look for in a quilt pattern, how to select a block pattern, assess your skill level. They provide lots of relevant facts to consider.

The site has a yardage calculator and a metric converter, both easy to use. The whole site is easy to navigate and use.

You will find extensive product reviews, pointers on what to look for when choosing a quilt frame, reviews to help you evaluate and compare sewing machines, what to look for when comparing quilt lights, plus reviews to assist your selection of quilting software. There are even tips on buying quilting books -  how to compare quilting books, and the differences between a helpful and a mediocre quilting book.

Then there are detailed explanations for over 20 quilting techniques and for 6 basic types of quilts. The section for evaluating quilting equipment has three sections -  basic, time saving and comfort based equipment and tools.

The author goes into quite a lot of detail on all these subjects. The articles are compelling because they are written with authority.

The goal of this website continues the tradition of quilters helping quilters so that everyone benefits.

Make them a visit, you’ll learn something new, guaranteed.
