Transforming photographs into you name it – website review of virtuoso magus Nicholas Schiller’s blog/website
![]() |
Nicholas Schiller’s website will appeal to anyone remotely interested in graphics arts, maps, stimulating photography, photo journalism, philosophy and not least, quilters.
Using a variety of techniques to manipulate his photographs, Nicholas makes stunning quilt-like collages and kaleidoscopes of large buidings, city parks, and a variety of landscape types. The photos are taken from all regions of the earth. Most of this unusual artwork is done from aerial shots.
Nicholas’ blog has at least 150 links to posts he has written about some aspect of his photo wizardry, social commentary and photo documentary. His sidebar invites the reader to play around and stay around. The eyes just can’t seem to get enough of what his imagination is churning out.
Of major appeal for quilters of all types, Nicholas has his Quilt Collection. He has used aerial photographs of parks and ponds, streets and bridges, crowded urban areas and much more to compile his photo quilts. Since the aerial photographs used are predominantly earth tones and greens, color manipulation is often necessary. This is the ingenious and appealing way Schiller makes his works of art come alive. Very impressive.
