Encouraging Art Purchasers

Virtual Auditions of Your Artwork

Follow up article to Encouraging Corporate Clients, April 27, 2010

Sometimes, when people are looking in art galleries to select art for their home, the opportunity for a sale is lost because the potential buyer is unsure of how the art work will look in their home.

And even if a business owner realizes that good art work hanging in offices, meeting rooms and hallways would energize his staff and spark creativity, that business owner may be reluctant to make an investment in art works because he or she cannot “see” where or how it will all come together.

Using a digital camera, a computer and some software, I can create a virtual placement of art so that any potential art buyer can instantly see how the space and the art will work together. Using e-mail and customer provided photo images (prints, slides and negatives are OK), I can accurately scale, skew and add drop shadows to my art so that my customers can see how it will look before they make the decision to purchase. If the client is unsure which of two pieces of art will work better, I will audition both.

With additional software and advanced photo editing skills you may be able to group your client’s existing art with your art. If your client owns sculpture, you can overlay their sculpture in front of your wall art. If you have the software skill, you can virtually rearrange their art to complement the “addition”. Be sure to ask for their room dimensions so you accurately scale your art to their space.

The photos used in this post are purchased Fotolia pictures of typical rooms. Some are some simulations from my website demonstrating virtual art work auditions. For a different demonstration I have “before and after” pictures of a board room displaying some of my quilt art.

There is another possible outcome of these marketing strategies. The client might want to become more involved in personalizing the art and its arrangement in their home or business setting. The happy result could be a commission for specific art to enhance existing artwork.

What a clever idea! Wish you the best with it. My skills are not up to that sort of thing. I work so slowly with my quilting and I’m just beginning with computer-ese. Good for you.
